Book reviews: Year 2013

Old Man's War (Old Man's War, #1) by John Scalzi

I'd been meaning to read this book for years and years, but never got around to it. I sneakily suggested it as the next book for our bookclub and behold, I now had peer pressure to help me make the time to read it :) I want to like science-fiction because I feel it is a genre that fits me well, however I often have trouble connecting with the stories I read because they tend to focus more on The Idea or the setting and I need to care about characters first. Was I lucky here! Scalzi brings his characters to life and they are definitely the ones driving the story. Very enjoyable, interesting universe and lots of funny bits. Quick and easy to read, too.
